Girl Scouts Living Local on the North Fork of Long Island

Girl Scouts Living Local

I hosted two Girl Scout troops in the picturesque village of Orient, on the North Fork of Long Island. The girls enjoyed a weekend picking local, seasonal vegetables, tasting oysters fresh from the bay and watching chickens and pigs raised in the pasture. They met three local farmers. They learned about growing vegetables, oyster farming and just how important oysters are for water quality and the environment. They walked among the happy chickens and pigs living outside, in nature. The girls lived off the land ~~ all meals were prepared with local ingredients. The most important take aways from this invaluable experience were: "eat from nature" ~ "know where your food comes from" ~ "know your farmer" ~ "support local farms" ~ "healthy food = delicious food".

Retreats

Enjoy a truly restorative experience in an intimate setting.

I partnered with Tina Conroy, of The Intuitive Woman, for one day retreats at a my home in the picturesque and historic village of Orient, on the North Fork of Long Island.

A small group of women enjoyed a day of yoga and meditation, led by Tina. The day included two yoga/meditation classes and a Healing Circle in a very personal, yet energy filled setting.

The women also participated in an essential oils workshop and learned about personal care products without toxic ingredients.

I prepared a light breakfast, lunch and dinner with local, seasonal ingredients. The menu was vegetarian, dairy and gluten free. We also engaged in an informal and informative talk about food, nutrition and lifestyle.

There endless possibilities for additional retreats.
